You've grooved with the tunes of 270 North and trunk or treated to over 700 children in our community. Way to go Pathway youth! What about November? In addition to high school guy's basketball, bible study, small group, Wednesday nights, worship team, and sign art team, here's what's happening:

November 4-5 is our Youth Camping Trip (indoor/outdoor) so bring your camping gear and experience all your favorite camping moments. We will start after school on Friday and conclude 11:00 am on Saturday.

November 8 - Voting Day for our country and a day off from school for teenagers. We will plan to go shopping for our Operation Christmas Child boxes using the money we raised from recycling cans.

November 13 - Right after the Sunday am service we will have a parent meeting. Encourage your parents or guardians to be there for details like church camp dates, fundraisers, and missions opportunities for the spring and summer. You will learn about the application process and help make some decisions for winter programs.

November 23 - No Wednesday night service so we will go bowling. We typically invite the college students home on break to join us. Come out 6:30 pm and bring money for bowling with your friends.

Parent info: if you are swamped in a fast-paced fall calendar, let us know how we can minister and pray your teenager and family. Many of our youth volunteers are attending football games, soccer games, band competitions, and concerts. Be sure and let us know your events and we would love to come and cheer you on. Please pray for our Wednesday night gatherings as many new students are attending and participating, looking for a solid group in which they can find true friends and a living God. Also pray for our small group time on Sunday night that we can direct our students in a deeper understanding of God's word, Christian community, and the profound call to justice and righteousness. Many of our seniors have leadership responsibilities in the small groups and need prayer as they encounter the opposition described in Ephesians 6.

Washed, Church Camp 2011

Eleven more days until we leave for church camp. If you haven't done so already, all Point of Interest ratings and Medical Release forms need to be done, printed (just medical release forms), signed and turn in. You will need to create a participant account and then follow the directions. All camp monies should also be turned in--see Pastor Dan if you need to know your balance. Cedmore Crossings 2010

Church camp will be June 21-25 and the $75 deposits were due February 14 - it's not too late to register and turn in your deposit asap. For those who are ready, the camp forms are ready, including selecting your Point of Interest activities (POI) and your medical release forms. Use the hyperlink to take you to Crossing's website and fill out the forms and register yourself as a participant. Your church is Pathway Baptist Church and your city is Calvert City, KY. The theme this year is Adopted and we want parents, youth, and friends to begin praying how God will use church camp in the life of these young people.

Small Groups are Launching

Hey friends of Pathway youth - Sunday, September 13 marks the launch for our youth small group program. A small group is a group of 8-12 teenagers who will meet with their peers (guys with guys and girls with girls) and an adult leader and possible adult co-leader. They will begin Sunday nights at 5:45 pm and be done with students available to meet parents at 7:15 pm. Most will be on campus at Pathway, but some may choose to meet at a leaders home or off-campus site - we will provide transportation for anyone who needs it. We ask that you join us in prayer that these groups would be powerful tools for growing young believers and as Pastor Mike has been reminding, helping us to "capture the imagination of our community."

Imagine if other teenagers heard that there was a safe place where anyone felt included, had the time and space to share deeply with a trusted and confidential group of friends and adults who were always there for them, and discovered that God was in the midst of these relationships and his Word and Spirit could bring hope and resurrection to their lives and the lives of those they loved. That is our hope for these small groups. We as leaders as passionate that our young people know that we love them and they experience in 'real life' the love of God and learn how to be in relationship with the Father, Son and Spirit. To borrow another schema, we believe that small groups can help prepare young people to respond to critical questions like who is my master (who is the God of the universe that created me), who will be my mate(s) (those whom God is calling me to serve with in life), and where and how is God calling and equipping me for God's mission?

The student series we have chosen is Life Together, a series that combines easy to follow daily devotionals with DVD clips and group interaction. Follow the link to review the ideas and challenges that await your teenager. You can support your teenager by praying that they will spend time in God's word and be challenged to retain it through memorization and then come to small group and make it relevant and personal. Each of the five studies are just six weeks, and we plan to give each small group 8-9 weeks to complete each book in the series. Pray for each of our small group leaders and co-leaders that God will grant them wisdom, flexibility, openness to how the Spirit is leading, ability to communicate the Word is clear ways, and personal purity in their homes and lives.

Thank you for partnering with us, helping us get youth to places where God's Word is proclaimed and where they can hopefully encounter and respond to the living God. We love you more than you know.

Cedarmore 2009

It's Wednesday morning and I wanted to share with those back home what's been happening at Cedarmore. First, your sons and daughters are truly awesome young people made in our Creator's image and I have seen them reflect God's humor, courage, compassion and love. You might be surprised at how quickly your teenager has made new friends, tried new foods, or risen to meet new challenges. Some have even found Scripture to share with the group that is impacting them. Our daily schedule with 600 other campers is something like this:

We are in the Green Camp (with three other color camps rotating with us):

8:00 am Breakfast
8:50 am Morning Celebration
9:35 am -11:30 Rotation of large group bible study, small group bible study and Break Thru (a time of intentional relationship building with a small group)
12:15 pm Lunch
1:15 pm Connect (a time of intentional relationship building with our youth group)
2:45 pm C4 (Explosive competition within our color group)
4:15 pm Point of Impact (you know, the list of activities they wanted)
6:25 pm Dinner
8:25 pm Worship
9:30 Checkpoint (an intimate time of listening and processing what God has been teaching us as a youth group)
11:30 pm Girl TIme and Dude Sessions (a time where the guys and girls in our youth group to know and love each other and it may be humorous fun or words of healing and help)
Midnight - Bedtime???

I did bring a package of tissues with me and they are already gone - your teenagers have cried tears of joy and sorrow. I have watched them minister to each other, whether it was encouraging a younger student to get on the enormous zip line or playing a hot game and keeping a positive attitude. There has been lots of laughter and down time and times where students have really opened up about their curiosity about God, his presence in their lives, or why he might feel so absent. Our speaker, Allen Jackson (not the singer) challenged them last night with the formula that Curiosity leads to Connection with God. Many are curious what God has for them this week and it has already being revealed first through time alone in God's word and prayer, bible study, committed staffers here at the camp, times of musical worship, and in our times as a youth group. We are praying God's Holy Spirit to reign and his grace to be sweet to our teens.

Be sure and check out the camp website where you can email your camper, see pics, meet the staff and more. To see the photos we taken, we post them so only our friends on Facebook can view them. We do not post photos of your teenager unless there is filtered access. We'll update as we can. Thank you for entrusting your teenager to the Lord and the amazing job you do as parents and family to introduce them to our Savior. Your prayers are making a difference and they do hear that you love them.

Disciple Now 2009

It's time for our youth to send in our camp deposits to secure our place at Cedarmore. Please turn in your $75 camp deposit for your young person(s) by February 1, 2009. If the cost seems unattainable right now, let Dan or a youth leader know and we will work with families who want to make monthly payments for the deposit. Remember, most of our students are able to pay their balance by volunteering to work our church camp fundraisers. Be sure and stay tuned for fundraising opportunities this spring.

Feb. 13-14 Live Love Conference in Memphis

The youth will be attending The Live.Love conference in Memphis, TN, February 13-14. We will depart from the Ministry Center as close to 3:30 pm as possible. If students live in Graves County, we will be driving down the Purchase Parkway and can pick them up en route. We chose this conference because we believe students need spiritual care and tending, away from the pressures of their habits and routines. Church camp, while powerful, only occurs once a year and we have been praying asking the LORD about an affordable option in the winter season. We were drawn to this conference primarily because of the speaker, Francis Chan. As a youth team, we all heard him speak in Nashville and were all impacted by his teaching, his commitment to Jesus Christ and his lived testimony. He is a clear, humorous, but passionate minister and speaks out of his experience as a shepherd and a disciple. We know our teenagers will walk away changed. We were also drawn to this conference because of the cost: $40. We are still uncertain what the final overall cost will be with food and hotel, but are asking students to budget between $60-75. If we can lower the cost, we will try and find a way. If cost is a problem, please speak with Dan or a youth leader and we will make sure the teenagers you know can attend. Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat will be happening again and we will be meeting at Memorial Park to hand out candy, Friday, October 31. The event starts at 5:00 pm and will end around 8:00 pm or when we run out of candy. To donate candy, bring a bag to drop off at the Ministry Center. Sign up your family and theme and participate in this tremendous community outreach.

Camping at LBL

It's time to camp again! We will depart from the Ministry Center, Friday, October 17 at 5:30 pm. We will spend the night Friday and Saturday night and return to the MC Sunday after the morning service. Students should bring a bible, warm sleeping bag, pillow, personal toiletries, athletic shoes, and clothes that can get dirty. Optional but potentially helpful items would be a water bottle, flashlight, bug spray, or a plug in heater for a tent (be careful about using these, as they are flammable!). If students cannot stay the entire weekend and need to come and go, they will need to sign out and sign in. If you have questions, call Dan. Looking forward to great weekend of fellowship around God's Word and his people in his creation.

Upcoming Events for Fall 08

Ultimate Frisbee - Sunday August 31 at 7:00 PM. We meet at Mike Miller Park. Our plans are to end play at 9:30 PM.

Youth Party and Outreach - Wednesday September 17 - We will not be having the usual youth group meeting. The youth will be going to a youth party and outreach event hosted by Sharon Baptist Church, (Mayfield, KY). Our plans are to leave at 5:15 PM and return by 9:00 PM.

See You At The Pole - Wednesday September 24 at your Middle and High School flag pole. The goal of this event is to gather as Christians to pray for the school. Come to school at least 20 minutes early to participate.

See You At The Pole Celebration - Wednesday September 24 - This event is a celebration of See You At The Pole. We will leave the church at 6:30 PM and travel to Jonathan Creek Camp. We will return by 8:45 PM.

College Stuff for High School Juniors and Seniors

Christian College Fair - Monday September 15 - We are looking to attend a Christian Collge Fair in Louisville. A Christian College Fair is the assembly of many admissions representatives from various Christian colleges. This is a great opportunity for a college bound student to obtain information and make inquiry to many schools in a compact space of time. This event is from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. We will plan a travel itinerary as the group RSVP's.

Muddin' for Missions

Muddin' for Missions is happening again, August 23, in Cunningham, KY. This is a Mud Volleyball Fundraiser/Youth Rally put on by Bethlehem Baptist Church of Cunningham, KY. The day's events will include a worship service with band and guest speaker. The bulk of the day will be a volleyball tournament played on a mud court. Entry in the volleyball tournament is $7 per player. Lunch is $4. T-Shirt items are priced at $5 and $10. We will leave from the Ministry Center at 7:45 AM. Depending if our teams keep winning in the tournament is the factor that will decide our arrival time back at the Ministry Center. In past years we have been back around 4:30 PM to 5 PM.

Youth Rally

August 16 we will join a group of churches in Graves County that have put together a youth rally. While the rally directs its focus to students involved in athletics, all students will benefit from attending the rally. Former Dallas Cowboy football player Bill Bates will speak and there will be a couple of bands as well as an extreme sports ministry group doing motorcross and skateboarding. Visitors are encouraged as this is a outreach event. We will leave from the Ministry Center at 2:45 PM and arrive back at 10 PM. There is no cost to attend the rally. It is appropriate to make sure your student has money for fast-food/vendor food.

Cedarville Team Coming

Cedarville's music team will be coming to Pathway and we will be having a youth rally to hang out and play with the team members and hear how God is working in their lives. The youth will be meeting Saturday, July 12, at 5:00 pm at Mike Miller Park, at the pavilion by the softball fields. We will be eating picnic style foods and are asking interested church members to bring a dessert to help out. The youth will play Ultimate Frisbee and tiger ball, so bring clothes you can play in.
Sharon Baptists youth group will also be joining us. The event will conclude around 9:00 pm. The team will also lead our congregation in worship Sunday morning, July 13th.

Thursday - Unpack the Tools

Today our students are looking at the following tools:

Camp
Going to Church
Fasting
Quiet Time
Prayer
Fellowship with believers
Reading/studying the Bible
Disciple Now
Missions trips/service activity
Giving/tithing

They are being asked:

What are some of the hurdles you face on a daily basis when it comes to being consistent in reading the Bible, praying, being active in your church, or giving or tithing from your money?

If you are like the rest of us, the challenges come from all sides. School work, sports, schedules, parents' objections, other stuff we want to spend our time and money on. Jesus never suggested that being a builder was going to be easy. We must recognize the importance of the tools that God has given us and actually use them - even when it is a challenge.

They are taking a look at Philippians 4:10-13, practicing the tool of bible study. They are asked to answer four questions:

Who is the audience
Who is the author?
How would the audience have heard what was just said?
How would this principle apply to me?

Our guiding text today is:
Matthew 7:24-27

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. Again, you can log onto the Parent Point and email your student. The students who have received emails have thoroughly enjoyed hearing messages of encouragement, humor and prayer. At the parents point site you can also see photos and video of the students at the camp.

General:
Stage night was a wonderful opportunity for some of our students to display their skills. Our sign art team performed, Jansen Barrett sang, and Jonathan Vinson's band (Erin Bailey, Andrew Lockard and Grant Jones) closed out the night. Please continue to pray for our students. Two have made professions of faith for salvation. We are challenging them tonight to really engage the tool of bible reading to not only to be broken by God at camp, but to be able to hear what God wants to say to them every day. Many are getting it, wanting to change, and asking questions of how to study, asking for study bibles, and for accountability and tools. Your prayer is more powerful than you will ever know.

Wednesday-Thursday

We are alive, doing well and growing. One of the main things we hear your students saying is how they are relating their brokenness with their need to reconcile to their families. We want you as families to know as much as possible what your students are learning. Our church camp theme is "blueprint: a call to radical faith and obedience." On day one, they covered the idea of "Behind the Design" where they examined that God is holy and God is perfect. Everything He does is right. He is lacking nothing. They looked as Colossians 1:16 that says "He created it all and holds it all together." They learned the fact that God being is holy is one of the great things about his character, because we are able to trust Him with our lives. He makes no mistakes. They were asked the question, "How does God's holinessand perfection affect the way you live today?

On Wednesday they looked at the idea of "Laying the Foundation." They looked at the passage Matthew 7:24-28, looking at the foundation of two different homes. They were asked to complete the John 1 Foundation Test and aswered the following questions:

The Word of God: Do you have a desire to know God's Word?
Sin: Am I sensitive to my sin and quick to confess and repent (turn from sin)?
Loving Others: Do I love 'the brothers' (other believers)? Do I have astrong bond with and/or love being around those who encourage me in the faith? How do I treat other believers?
Obedience: Do I have a desire to obey the commands of God? Do I have a desire to know the commands of God? Do the things I say, watch, listen to, or people I ahng around reflect the world of Christ?
Are you following in the footsteps of Christ

They sifted through what are false foundations that replace our foundation found only in faith by grace in Christ. Examples of false foundations were things such as Emotions (the need to feel God, having an emotional experience at some point, goose bumps, camp high), Deeds (Pharisees, reading/memorizing the word, go to church, etc), Other People (Youth Pastor, Pastor, family, receiving assurance from other people), Events (saying a prayer, baptism, going to church, filling our a decision card). Their TAWG (Time Alone with God) booklet exhorted them in the following:

When someone builds on the foundation of Jesus Christ and is obedient to His Word, the foundation affects everything they do. Their lives are different and that difference is noticed by people who are around them. Think about the people you listed above that you look up to as Christians. Would you say their lives are built on the foundation of Christ? You may want to talk to them. Ask them to meet with you and help you understand what it means to have relationship with Christ.

Church Camp Tuesday

Hello parents!

The weather in Cedarmore is perfect and our students are flourishing in the sun (we are still liberally applying sunscreen on some unwilling faces). Parents, if you would like to email your camper, or see footage and photos of our week, go to the Crossings link (hit the hyperlink) and log into the parent point. We will receive any emails and distribute them out to your students. We are getting ready to move to our connect time, so please continue to pray. God is working and it is a privilege to work with your students. Today's activities included breakfast (biscuits and gravy which is always a crowd pleaser), bible study, blobbing and zip line in the lake, the first POIs (climbing, horses, mountain biking, sign language, arts and crafts, field games), connect time, and then worship tonight. In the evening, after our checkpoint time, there will be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament. Long days but rewarding times. Our evening will conclude with girl time and "dude" sessions. They're tired but excited. Gotta go unlock a room!

Ichthus 2008

We leave for Ichthus Thursday, June 12, early in the morning. We will depart from the ministry center. We will return Sunday, June 15 around 9:00 am for the morning service at Pathway.
Things to bring:

Sleeping/bag pillow
Sunscreen (over 15 spf - preferrably sweat proof, or long extended wear)
A reuseable water bottle (if you have one)
Bible/notepad
Towel, toiletries
A folding outdoor chair
A tent (if you have one - contact Dan if you do)
Personal drinks or snacks
Spending money for t-shirts, food vendors or band merchandise
Bug spray

Helpful/optional things to bring:

A tarp to sit on (if you have one)
Flip flops for the shower
A battery powered fan to keep cool
A small bag to hold personal items (all bags are checked at security)
A head lamp (to see at night, especially great for the port-o-potties)
A watch to keep track of stage times
Glo-necklace or stick for night concerts
A small umbrella (to shield sun and rain)

Car Wash - Thank You!

Our car wash fundraiser was a success - thank you to all who brought your students and your cars. We had some bad sunburns but raised $634.47 so far!!! Each student earned roughly $5/hour that they worked. Way to go - we're on our way to Cedarmore.

Church Camp POI's and Medical Release Forms

Students need to fill out their Point of Interest (POI) activities and Medical Release forms online. Students need to fill out their forms before June 1 and bring a printed copy of their medical release form with them to the church. All medical release forms need to be notarized.

Pizza Fundraiser

The youth are selling pizzas for camp - see your students to place an order April 30-May 14. Pizzas will be delivered Wednesday, May 28. Each student receives $5 for every order.

Church Camp 2008 Fundraiser

The deposits for camp ($75) should have already been turned in, but it is not too late to sign up for camp. We will be attending our annual location of Camp Cedarmore. Our first fundraiser will be this weekend (March 14-16). We will be cleaning, smoking, and selling chickens on Friday (cleaning) Saturday (selling), and then pork by the pound and slabs of ribs on Sunday (selling/pick-up). Students can help by cleaning chickens on Friday. We meet at the Main Street location Friday at 4:00 pm. It should take roughly over an hour. We will meet again on Saturday around noon to sell and deliver chickens. Students who sell meat will get a larger fundraising portion. Prices are as follows:

Chickens - $7 whole chicken
BBQ Pork - $7/lb.
Slab of Ribs - $16/slab

Ichthus 2008: listen.live

We will be attending the Ichthus music festival once again. The festival will be June 11-14. For full listings of band and speakers check out the official link to Ichthus 2008. The cost of $90 includes ticket, food and all costs for the weekend. We are currently looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to camp with us and help with food preparation and get a better understanding of youth culture and Christian music and musicians. It's time to start planning the annual youth Christmas party. The location will be at the home of the Sears family in Calvert City. The party is scheduled for Friday, December 14, 2007 with the time TBA. Dan should be announcing our departure and return time from and to the Ministry Center in Sunday's bulletin. We are asking students to bring one funny party gift to exchange and to bring one child's gift to give for Operation Angel Tree, an organization that gives presents to children whose parents are serving time in prison. The Golden Compass

As youth workers, we encourage parents to help their children biblically engage culture, which means more than merely opposing culture, we want to find ways to bring Christ to the center of our lives, especially our art and entertainment. The new movie, The Golden Compass, offers parents and concerned adults an opportunity to engage their teens and present a biblical world view about the surrounding culture, which often obscures the message of Good News in Christ. Youth Camping at LBL

It's time to get ready to camp! We will be leaving Friday, October 26 after school and finish Sunday, October 28 after the morning service. Bring your sleeping bag, warm clothing, hiking shoes, bible, and a tent if you have one. The cost for this trip is $18. We'll be playing ultimate frisbee, touch football, tiger ball and more. We will also enjoy Tommy's famous chili. It will be a great time of fellowship.

August Heat

Thanks to all who participated in the youth rally and senior legacy night - the weather was hot, but the time together was great. The photos for both are on facebook. We are working with youth roots to see if they can add an album feature to their photo section to make uploading photos as easy as it is on facebook (right now we have to add them one at a time - that's why there are so few). Upcoming for the rest of August we have a church day at Venture River park scheduled for August 18. The event is open to all area churches and the link to the event is http://www.reviveprayerwalk.com/. The topic will be "How to be an example in our schools," and the worship/speaking part is from 5:30-8:00 pm. We are tentatively planning on leaving the ministry center around noon, but the time is subject to change depending on how long we want to stay at the water park (8 hours might be a bit much if it's a sweltering day). There will be a lunch special deal - $3.95 per person for hot dog or slice of pizza, chips and small drink. You can also pack your own lunch and eat outside the park on the picnic benches. The church rate that is being offered for the day is $13.00 per person with a minimum of 15 in the group. We are also planning on participating in the annual "Muddin' for Missions" in Cunningham, KY, August 22. Stay tuned for more details. We have several events coming up: Friday, July 20 will be our high school all-nighter, Wednesday, July 25 after youth group will be our middle school all-nighter. Attend the grade that you were last year. For the month of August we are planning to join a Paducah area church ultimate frisbee competition at Mike Miller Park, Wednesday, August 1, and an area-wide church day at Venture River Saturday, August 18, and then we'll be Muddin' for Missions again in Cunningham, KY, Saturday, August 25. We'll post more details as things get closer but be sure to save these dates. All these events are posted on our youth group calendar on Youth Roots (you don't have to be a member to view the calendar), so be sure to join the Pathway Youth group on the Youth Roots site. Home from Camp

Sorry for the lack of communication on Thursday and Friday - so much happened that we didn't get a chance to post anything. Your students are home now and you've probably heard the stories of the slurge fest (the photos are great!), Shane dislocating his knee (he handled the whole situation amazingly well and is hanging in there on his new crutches), the silly string war between Krista and Dru's room, and mattress surfing down the hallway. Our group alone raised over $750 to send students to church camp in the impoverished eastern European country of Moldova. Two out of three campers in Moldova pray to receive Christ as Savior and the total offering for the camp was $4500! That amount will send 300 students to camp ($15 per camper). While we had a great time, the point of impact we continue to pray for is that the moments of spiritual confession will result in truly changed lives for the students. They are a remarkable group and be sure to ask your student about what s/he learned in their T.A.W.G. time, bible study, and team building sessions. Our speaker, Pastor Jimmy Scroggins, did a fantastic job of challenging the students to take risks and now they need to decide what risks God is calling them to take as individuals and as a group. Many have prayed about full-time ministry, re-dedication, and family reconciliation. We will be presenting about our experience at camp this Sunday, July 1, at 6:00 pm. If the students are involved in music they need to be there at 4:00 pm, and if they want to help out with the service, be there at 5:15 pm. After the service we'll be playing Ultimate Frisbee at Mike Miller - bring $3 for pizza. We should wrap up at the park around 9:30 pm. Continue to pray for all the decisions and commitments that were made during this week and plan for your student (s) to be a part of church camp next year - June 24-27, 2008.

Youth Roots Photos

Many have asked questions about how to view photos of the Youth Group on the Youth Roots site. After signing up, hit the "Groups" tab at the top of the page. A search options will appear and search for the name "Pathway Baptist." Our group should come up under the leader name "drcrapo." Select the Pathway Baptist Church Youth group and then look to the lower right side. An option "Join this group" will be there and you can request to join the group. The request will go to Dan and once he approves, you should be able to view all the photos. We have limited the access of the photos to only members, friends, and family so strangers on the internet cannot view them. We implemented this precaution in order to prevent people from being able to download the pictures who aren't affiliated with our students. I know it's an extra step, but we do everything we can to protect your students. Let us know if you have any difficulty with the Youth Roots site!

Wednesday at Cedarmore

For many students, camp might be the earliest they wake up this summer. Even Bekah was awake at 7:00 am. Many are eating breakfasts (with a lot of cajoling from their leaders), but no one is starving. The food is actually excellent and the volunteer staff serves so graciously. In our checkpoint time last night (which was much cooler and quieter than previous meetings-thanks for praying) the students shared what they had learned in their T.A.W.G. (time along with God), team building sessions, and from the evening worship. The words poured out as students confessed, repented, and challenged one another in their walk and testimony. The theme of one has proved to be effective and powerful. Many students confessed living two or three lives: one at school, home, and church. I am sure many adults could learn from and relate to the truth that these students are learning that the only life worth living is the one life we live in Christ. While the music, activities, and blobbing has been great, the students agree that the best moments are our time as a group to be challenged in the word and build up each other in our faith. Today Amber, Lauren, Jansen and the youth band will perform in the Stage Night and there are always a few nerves before the event. Several students have already responded to receive Christ for the first time and we are still praying for decisions in our group. Please continue to pray as this is the most critical force upon which we rely. Remember your bracelet - by now it should be irritating your arm and hopefully reminding you how few adults truly invest in young people. We are so proud of our church and their faithfulness.

Tuesday at Cedarmore

We arrived safely at Cedarmore after a small part needed to be replaced on our trailer. Fortunately, Pastor Mike noticed the missing part before it became an issue. The students mostly laughed, slept, and ate their plethora of snacks on the way up. When we arrived the students were greeted at the entrance by a staff member who prayed with each of the vans/bus. The craziness then began! We got a group photo, did the wave, registered and found our wonderfully air conditioned rooms. Our first big event was the first evening meeting and energy filled the room as the students poured into the dark room with loud music (ask Meaghan), high fives from counselors, and dizzying lights. Our theme is One and the camp pastor shared with the students how they are part of one story - the biblical story of God creating, redeeming, and restoring this world and God's people. Of course he shared in such a way that mingled laughter with impact. Our students gave him a thumbs up in our checkpoint time as a youth group at night. Our only distraction was our checkpoint room which was sandwiched in-between two other groups with thin walls between us, but today we heard that we will have a much bigger room for our group of 53, and it will be quiet since only our group will use it. Checkpoint time is probably one of the most critical times at church camp and God has already met our need by ensuring this will be a time where we can focus on what God is communicating to us as a group. We wrapped up the evening with our "Girl Time" and the guys with their "Dude Sessions" and some went to bed, while others revelled in new friends, jokes, and Kenny's threat to turn on the heat if they didn't go to sleep. Students shared that they appreciate their counselors, especially the energy they bring and the way they have demonstrated wanting to know each of the students. God is already at work and the staff at Cedarmore have been praying since last August for our youth. The spiritual dedication makes such a difference and Elizabeth said last night, "we are so free of distraction here, we can hear God, I guess that's why you take away our cell phones." God is working and we are faithfully praying - we'd love for you to join us.

Details for Church Camp

We leave Monday, June 25 and will return Friday, June 29 around 5:30 pm. Be at the ministry center at 6:45 am!!! If you still haven't turned in a medical release form, POI, or your balance, bring it Sunday. Each student can bring a suitcase (no more than 50 lbs.), a carry-on, and a bed roll. Coolers will be provided by the church for cold items. Students need spending money or a sack lunch for the ride up and lunch money for the ride home. Spending money while at camp is optional. Dan has list of items students should and should not bring. A reminder that students should not have cell phones or other electronic devices (mp3 players, dvd players, etc.). Students may also want to bring a black trash bag for wet or muddy clothes/shoes. Be sure to pack one pair of gym shoes (and lots of socks) for rec games. We are pumped about what God can do with us as a group. We are thankful for each student and family who has made a commitment to be a part of this week. Please join us in prayer throughout this week and the weeks ahead.

Swimming at the Donald's

This Wednesday there is no official youth group due to VBS, but we don't want to miss out on our last Wednesday before we leave for Cedarmore. Instead, we'll be swimming at the Donald's pool. Ultimate Frisbee Sunday

This Sunday (June 10) is a big deadline: notarized medical release forms are due, point of interest (POI) sheets for the students are due, camp deposits are due, and orders for t-shirts and polos are still being taken. If you have a question regarding your remaining balance for church camp, be sure to give Dan a call or send him an email. Sunday night we'll be continuing with our summer series, "Let My People Think." After the combined 6:00 pm service, the youth will leave for Mike Miller park to play some Ultimate Frisbee. We are asking everyone to bring $2.00 to help cover the cost of the sub sandwiches and soda pop. After consuming our 'health' food, we'll play until 9:30 pm. Parents can pick up their student at the park or make other arrangements. We'll see you Sunday...

Hot chickens

A special thanks to all our parents, youth, and volunteers who have worked so hard on our fundraiser. Sunday, June 3, is your last chance to buy a chicken (the pork is sold out!). Come out and help us sell our remaining chickens and stick around that evening (6:00 pm) for Washington Street Baptist and their choir. We'll be having an ice-cream social afterwards and everyone is welcome. Be sure to thank a Certified Holy Smoke member for their 72 hours of service to our youth - we are so blessed to have this ministry in our church family.

The Importance of Church Camp

I know when this time of year rolls around, as youth leaders, our hearts become heavy for the students that we see are not planning to go to camp with us this summer. Those who have been, know the impact of getting away from all the clutter and distraction in our lives and just being completely available to whatever God wants to do in in our lives. In eight years of going to camp I have never seen God fail to meet with the students and leaders in our youth group. He convicts, encourages, breaks hearts, mends hearts, builds relationships within the youth group, sends rest and peace and most of all just meets each of us at our point of greatest need. For my own children, this has been the one summer event that everything else is planned around. I believe this is an amazing tool that God uses to recenter our kids and help them to build a support system to face the struggles that teens are bombarded with on a daily basis.

Smoking Chickens?

It's that time of year again to wash, smoke, and sell our chickens (and pork this year). Pathway Baptist's own Certified Holy Smoke is ready to help us out again. We'll be washing and selling chicken June 1-3, so keep these days open. Parents can drop off their youth at the old Main Street church at 3:45 pm on Friday in the gravel parking lot. Do not park in Draffens lot on Friday since they are open until 4:00!!! The washing should last about 2 hours at most (end around 5:30 pm). We'll meet again to start selling chickens on Saturday at 11:00 until 3:00 (we'll wash chickens again in-between). Students may want to bring a sack lunch on Saturday and a cold drink - we will have a cooler available. This fundraiser is an easy non-salmonella way to earn some money for camp. Students are pro-rated for their time based on their arrival and departure from the fundraiser. The more we sell, the more money goes to each student.

Working at the Car Wash Update

The two car wash fundraisers for church camp have helped students earn roughly $1000, which will be pro-rated based on the amount of time each student was at each car wash. We will be dividing the money out between 20-22 students at each car wash. Special thanks to Calvert City Quick Lube and 1st Kentucky Bank of Draffenville for generously donating the water and location. Special thanks especially to Kenny and Beth Solomon who worked so hard with our youth to make sure we all gave a product worthy of Pathway's name. We met quite a few people who had never heard of our church and our students did a terrific job of representing Christ to the community.

Ichthus 2007

This year's theme for the Ichthus music festival in Wilmore, Kentucky is Uprising. Check out the website and see a full list of the bands and speakers that will be performing this year. Let Dan know asap if you plan to attend. Tickets are $90 (includes all three days plus the food and gas that we are providing), or you if you are over 15 years old, you can sign up to volunteer as a worker for 9 hours and earn a free ticket. We depart from the Ministry Center Thursday, June 14 at 6:45 AM (yes, AM). Bring a lawn chair, clothes you don't mind getting sweaty in, toiletries, extra water, bed roll, bible, and some clothes for Sunday morning (we return Sunday, June 17 around 9:30 AM). We'll provide the food for daily meals, but bring extra money if you want to purchase fast food or stuff from vendors.

Have You Turned In Your Medical Release Form?

Church camp is June 25-29 this year and we are pumped. Camp Cedarmore requires every student with his/her parent(s) to fill out a medical release form. All medical release forms must be notarized (see Dru Donald) and turned into Dan by June 10, 2007, along with the remaining balance for church camp. The total cost we are asking students to pay to attend Cedarmore is $220 (roughly $150-200 less than the national average). There is one more fundraiser before camp this weekend - be sure to participate!

Facebook, Logo, & Basketball

Pathway Youth can now be found on the internet. Last week we opened a Facebook under Daniel Crapo (check for updates in My Events) and this week a blog. Crazy! If that was not enough Pathway Youth may be looking at a new logo; ie the picture above.

In other things, Pathway HS Guys played a good game against Briensburg Baptist. We fell short 59-51. Sam and Kyle Forte suffered blows to the knee and eye respectivley. Keep Sam in your prayers as his buised knee will take some time to heal.
